Welcome to Wall Street I! This course introduces students to the fundamentals of how a market economy functions. The class will explore and analyze the basic business areas of management, economics and finance in today’s global economy. Students will develop an introductory knowledge of the stock market (the ABC’s of investing). We will also discuss stocks, mutual funds and 401(k) plans as retirement options. Students will learn about common stocks and how they relate to America's business structure, how and why a company issues stock, investment guidelines, stock exchanges and elements relating to stock markets. The use of current events is stressed as it is applied to the challenges of investing. Students will relate how economic and business principles affect investments through an active, “hands-on” participative environment, using interactive class activities, the stock market Internet simulation contest, and general classroom lectures. The class concludes with a final exam.
